General Camp Information

What are the camp hours?

WISummer camp hours are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Drop Off is between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM; Pick Up is between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM. Optional Extended Day can be added until 6:00 PM

What campus are programs offered at?

The majority of camp programs use the Primary School Campus as home base. The Primary School is located at 1690 36th Street, NW near Georgetown University.

Are lunches or snacks provided?

At this time, WISummer does not offer summer-time leal services or snacks. Campers should pack their own bagged lunch and snacks for the day.

Who are the staff?

WISummer staff are a dedicated team of talented and passionate bilingual educators. Many of our counselors work full-time at WIS, bringing a wealth of experience from language-based programs. Other counselors are college-age staff, with many being proud WIS alumni, ensuring a relatable and enriching environment for all participants. Together, they create a supportive and engaging atmosphere for our students to thrive.

What medical forms or immunizations are required?

Most WISummer forms require a physician's signature so plan well in advance.

The DC Universal Health Certificate (or equivalent from your state) is required for all campers to participate in camp programs at WIS. Campers bringing medications, or with asthma requiring an inhaler or allergies requiring an auto epinephrine injector, must also submit action plans signed by their physician. For any camper who wishes to take OTC medication at camp (like Tylenol, Benadryl, etc) must have a completed medication authorization form that is signed by their physician.

Required paperwork can be found online and in your CampBrain portal, and are due one-month prior to your campers first session of camp.

Campers cannot begin camp without these forms, and will not be permitted to stay. We do not provide refunds for any days missed due to incorrect or missing camper forms.

For full camp policies, read further here.

Is there a nurse or medical staff on site?

Yes. WISummer has a nurse on site during the camp day. During Extended Day when a nurse is not on-site, all staff in the Extended Day program are trained in First Aid and CPR.

This feels like an academic camp - do they just stay inside a classroom all day?

Not at all! While our camp includes hands-on, immersive language activities, campers spend a significant part of the day outdoors and engaged in active play-based learning. Each day includes free play on the playground, outdoor time, and choice-based activities like sports & games, robotics, ceramics, dance, yoga, sewing, cooking, and more.

Campers enjoy guest speakers, artists, and visiting professionals who lead interactive, real-word experiences aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme philosophy of inquiry, exploration, and learning through play. We also take field trips to get out into DC whenever possible.

Our camps are lively, dynamic, and joyful. Definitely not all-day classroom learning, and definitely not academic schoolwork!

What is the cancellation or refund policy?

  • A $100 per-camper, per-session deposit is required to secure your spot at camp. Deposit amounts are applied toward the final camp balance.

  • Deposits are non-refundable at point of registration for all programs. Please check camp dates against other obligations and vacations before registering your camper as your deposit(s) will not be refunded.

  • Full payment is due on May 22. Before this date, refund requests will be honored minus the deposit and administrative fees. Summer at WIS offers a variety of payment options to help finance your camper's summer experience. Financial aid assistance is not available for summer camps.

  • Between May 23 and June 5, any refund requests will be refunded at 50% the cost of registration. The full cost of registration is non-refundable after June 5 for any reason.

  • Families who register after May 22 are required to pay in full at the time of registration.

For full camp policies, read further here.

Do you provide sibling discounts or financial aid?

No. WISummer does not provide camp discounts for siblings or multi-session discounts and we do not have a financial aid program. WIS school-year financial aid does not extend to WISummer programs.

Can I take a tour? How can I meet the staff?

Because our campus is an active elementary school during the day, we're not able to offer tours while school is in session. However, we'd love to  help you get to know our program and team!

We'll be hosting three virtual information sessions where you can learn more about camp, ask questions, and get a feel for what we offer. Sign up here!

Information Session Dates:

  • Thursday, January 14 at 12:00 PM

  • Wednesday, January 28 at 6:30 PM

  • Tuesday, February 3 at 6:30 PM

For registered campers, you'll also have the chance to meet our incredible counselors and teachers in person at our Meet the Staff Night on June 18. This evening is designed for campers and families to visit campus and kick off the summer together.

What should my child bring to camp each day?

Campers have lockers to store items like a rain jacket/rain boots, sweater/sweatshirt, sunscreen, and other items. We will play outside rain or shine, so campers should come prepared. All campers must bring a reusable water bottle and a lunchbox to camp each day. A backpack is helpful to carry everything. Rest time is provided as part of the Early Years program, so a foldable bed-roll or blanket is recommended for rising Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten campers.

How do I make changes to my registration after submitting it?

After registration is complete, families cannot make changes to their camp registration on their own. Please contact summer@wis.edu to request changes to your camper's summer registration.
