French Camps: Early Years

Embark on a fun-filled journey into the world of French language and culture with our one-week immersive summer camps for children who will be in Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten in the fall of 2025. Whether your child is a new French learner or already speaks some French, our camp offers an engaging and developmentally appropriate environment to learn and practice French vocabulary. Each week focuses on a different theme, allowing children to dive into various aspects of the French-speaking world, and is packed with hands-on activities that integrate art, history, geography, culture, music, dance, cooking, dramatic play, and science—ensuring your child has a blast while building language skills!

Weekly Theme: Au Musée

In this creative and colorful week, campers will explore the world of art and history while practicing French vocabulary for colors, shapes, and famous works of art. Activities include:

  • Creating a “Galerie d'Art” (Art Gallery): Create your own artwork and showcase it in a mini-gallery.

  • Art History Exploration: Learn about famous French artists such as Monet and Cézanne, with storytelling and hands-on activities based on their famous works.

  • Museum Tour: Experience a virtual museum tour in France.

  • And More!

All camp programming includes indoor and outdoor play, general camp activities like games, story time, dramatic play, nature exploration, rest time, and a once-weekly water play adventure.

 

This camp is designed for campers who will be in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten in the Fall of 2025. Campers must be toilet trained to enroll in camp. Campers will be divided by language level, but could be combined into one group based on enrollment. 

Session 2: June 23-27

Weekly Theme: Danse et Musique

This week is all about rhythm and movement! Campers will learn French vocabulary related to music, dance, and instruments, while discovering the joy of French culture through song and dance. Activities include:

  • French Dance Party: Explore traditional French dances like the Bourrée and Ballet. 

  • Instrument Exploration: Discover French musical instruments like the accordion and tambourine.

  • Singing Time: Learn simple French songs and nursery rhymes to practice pronunciation and build vocabulary through melody.

  • And More!

All camp programming includes indoor and outdoor play, general camp activities like games, story time, dramatic play, nature exploration, rest time, and a once-weekly water play adventure.

Food is a fantastic way to learn language, and this week campers will discover the flavors and foods of the French-speaking world. They’ll practice essential French words for foods, ingredients, and meal-related vocabulary. Activities include:

  • Cooking Fun: Prepare simple French dishes like crêpes, cheese plates, or fruit salads.

  • Tasting Adventure: Sample French snacks like baguette, croissants, and fromage, and practice food-related vocabulary.

  • Culinary Art: Craft food-themed art projects and recipe books.

  • And More!

This week, campers will embark on a fun, global adventure, learning about the geography of French-speaking countries and their rich cultural traditions. Activities include:

  • Creating a World Map: Learn to locate French-speaking countries on a world map, discovering the diversity of the Francophone world.

  • Animal Kingdom: Practice the names of animals found in French-speaking countries, with fun animal-themed games and crafts.

  • French Folktales: Listen to folktales from countries like France, Canada, and Africa, and explore the different regions where French is spoken.

Weekly Theme: La Science Magique

Science is full of wonder, and this week campers will engage in hands-on science activities while practicing French vocabulary related to colors, nature, and basic science concepts. Activities include:

  • Color Mixing: Experiment with colors while mixing primary colors to create new ones.

  • Simple Science Experiments: Be introduced to concepts like gravity, magnetism, and nature, while using French words for materials and processes.

  • Outdoor Nature Walk: Explore the outdoors and identify plants, insects, and animals.

Weekly Theme: Au Théâtre!

The final week of camp is all about dramatic play and storytelling! Campers will learn French vocabulary through role-play, simple dialogues, and creative pretend play. Activities include:

  • Role-Playing Adventures: Take on roles like chefs, shopkeepers, or travelers to practice everyday vocabulary in a fun, engaging way.

  • Sentence Building: Use picture cards to create simple sentences in French, and act out stories with the new vocabulary.

  • Outdoor Games: Play interactive games like Simon dit in French and participate in treasure hunts that reinforce language learning.
